The new two-hour documentary "Oliver Sacks: His Own Life" profiles the celebrated neurologist and storyteller as he speaks with filmmaker Ric Burns during a series of 2015 interviews just weeks after Sacks received a terminal cancer diagnosis. In their wide-ranging conversation, Sacks shares intimate details of his battles with drug addiction, homophobia and an entrenched medical establishment that began to embrace his groundbreaking work decades after the fact. The film also draws on interviews with close friends, family members, colleagues and patients, as well as archival materials.
