Season 7 of this "Inspector Morse" prequel opens on New Year's Eve 1969, as Detective Sgt. Morse (Shaun Evans) ushers in 1970 at a glittering opera house in Venice, Italy. Back in England, where normalcy has been restored at Castle Gate CID under the oversight of Chief Superintendent Bright (Anton Lesser), the new decade begins with the discovery of a corpse on Oxford's canal towpath. DCI Fred Thursday (Roger Allam) launches the investigation, with his only clue a witness who heard whistling on the night of the crime.
