Director-writer Christopher Nolan ("Inception") spent more than five years working on the screenplay for this characteristically head-spinning 2020 sci-fi action thriller, which follows a CIA agent called the Protagonist (John David Washington), who learns how to manipulate time, then uses that ability to prevent an attack from future forces determined to annihilate present-day mankind. Given only a limited release in theaters due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the film failed to break even at the box office, despite good reviews.
